Join us to hear the remarkable story of cousins James and Justin Breheny, who revived a century-old family brewing legacy.
Rediscovered in a set of black recipe books dating back to the early 1900s, these historic recipes inspired the creation of Breheny Bros beers, including Tasmanian Co op Lager, Sparkling Bitter, Queensland Bitter, Superior Stout, and Royal Lager, brewed for the first time in over 100 years.
This session explores the uncovering of family history, the interpretation of century-old recipes and the challenges of bringing authentic heritage beers back to life. Along the way, the Brehenys reconnected with relatives, uncovered the stories of one of Australia’s most influential brewing families, and found ways to share this living history with today’s beer drinkers. It’s a story of tradition, innovation and the enduring power of family in Australian brewing.

About James Breheny
Managing Director, Breheny Brothers Breweries
James Breheny has an extensive marketing career in both strategic planning and marketing execution, and is now Managing Director of Breheny Brothers Breweries, who have brought their 100 year old family beer brands back to the market.
James has strong corporate experience, as well as, operational knowledge of market conditions in a variety of industry sectors after running his own marketing consulting business for over 20 years.
He has a strong track record in developing and delivering measurable business outcomes to a range of clients particularly in the automotive, beverage, retail, gaming, tourism and sporting industries.
James has also been President of business networking group, Beer & Beef Club for over 12 years.
About Justin Breheny
Chairman, Breheny Brothers Breweries
Justin Breheny has over 20 years' corporate experience establishing, managing and growing banking and insurance businesses throughout Asia - initially for ANZ Bank and then Insurance Australia Group.
He brought to that task a strong growth and P&L focus, along with the ability to work effectively in multiple cultural and regulatory environments.
Justin re-founded Breheny Bros Breweries in 2021 with cousin James Breheny with a joint desire to reinstate the Breheny family name as true pioneers of the Australian brewing industry.
