Today’s Battlefield, Tomorrow’s Legacy

Speaker | Michael Masterson, Principal, Intrinsika

Date and Time | Friday 22 May, 12:15pm - 1:00pm

For family businesses, today’s challenges can feel like a battlefield. Competition, disruption, and uncertainty everywhere. But the decisions you make now will shape tomorrow’s legacy. The key isn’t just what’s on your balance sheet; it’s the intangible assets that define your future. These often make up most of your worth, but the real question is: what is the critical 1% that truly drives growth and sets you apart?

In this interactive and thought-provoking session, Michael Masterson from Intrinsika will show you how to uncover your “magic 1%”, the strategies to unlock hidden value, and the assets you must protect to secure your family’s legacy. Using battlefield case studies, Michael will demonstrate how lessons from high-stakes environments apply directly to family businesses.

You’ll leave with fresh insights into what really makes your business valuable and it’s not what your accountant is telling you! Expect a challenging, fun, and completely different perspective on building lasting value for generations to come.

About Michael Masterson

Michael has worked with hundreds of family owned companies to identify the real assets that have often taken them from a single founder to the dominant player.

This enables them to identify if they can grow exponentially, and how to both within Australia and internationally. The other challenge many have faced is how to transition either within the family or to an external party through either a sell down or full exit.

Michael is a sought after global speaker and a Principal at Intrinsika, a global intrinsic and intangible asset advisory, valuation, and corporate finance specialist that helps companies and investors unlock their competitive edge by identifying, valuing, and monetising their Intrinsic Assets (the 1% of assets that typically drive >90% of the value and is rarely captured by the Balance Sheet, P&L or fixed asset register.

Some of the family owned companies have included Tarac, Mulgowie Farms, Ultraceuticals, Radcoflex, Kavanagh Industries, AirTrunk (from working with the founder and recently exited for $24B), Sage Automation (exited for $155M), Glidepath, Rhino-Rack (exited for $255M). For most it has been how to create sustainable intergenerational wealth.

Michael was part of the founding team at SalesForce (acquired by Probe CX / Salmat), driving the company to grow from the intial 6 to 7,500 people in just over eight years. As the Managing Director of Asia & New Zealand, Michael successfully led the business to become one of Omnicom Group’s (NYSE:OMC) most successful and profitable acquisitions. He is also the founder of several successful start ups and has been integral to the turnaround of two mid sized companies in the logistics and FMCG sectors, taking both from significant losses to profitability within nine months. He serves on several private company boards, many of them family owned enterprises, and is frequently called upon to assist owners and boards in managing the commercial, governance, and emotional dimensions of transition.

He is an IAM300 & Strategy 300 Global Leader ranking him as one of the world’s top IP strategists, and is a co founder of the Growth Capital Club and Chair of Private Wealth Network’s (PWN) New Zealand Investment Peer Group.
