Founded in 1934 by brothers Leo, Alphonsus, Thomas and Kevin Tobin, the Tobin Brothers Funeral Group is the largest family-owned funeral company in Australia. The company employs over 250 highly trained and experienced staff, with 27 branch locations throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area.
After more than 90 years, Tobin Brothers continues to be owned and operated by direct descendants of two of the four founders and today, 13 family members across four generations, along with their spouses, work in a variety of roles.
The family business's commitment to best practice from the beginning has remained a key pillar of the company’s longevity and success. Third and fourth generation family members, mother and daughter, Cathy Tobin and Brydie Hull, will share the secrets behind their success in sustaining a multi-generational family business.
From effective governance and their unique ownership structure to the strategic decision to employ non-family managers and working together as a family, they will provide valuable insights into how family businesses can not only survive but thrive across generations.

About Brydie Hull
As Funeral Communications Centre Coordinator, Brydie Hull plays an essential role in supporting families from their very first contact with Tobin Brothers. A fourth-generation Tobin family member, Brydie is known for her can-do attitude and practical, solutions-focused approach.
Her passion for client care and ability to think quickly and calmly have made her an outstanding leader of both the Coordination and Funeral Advice Line teams.
Brydie helps families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments while ensuring the safe and respectful care of every person entrusted to Tobin Brothers Funerals.
Proud to contribute to the family business, Brydie has been part of Tobin Brothers for 13 years, and her dedication to service excellence continues to deepen with each passing year.
About Cathy Tobin
As a third-generation member of the Tobin family, Cathy Tobin has spent her career helping guide the business with care, compassion and a deep sense of responsibility. Having spent 25 years working within the business and today having her three children now working within the company, Cathy’s commitment to family and community is reflected in every part of her role.
Alongside her position on the Tobin Brothers board, Cathy serves as a Branch Manager and Funeral Conductor, where her calm leadership and thoughtful approach provide reassurance to families during some of their most difficult times. She is known for her ability to understand individual needs, manage complex arrangements, and ensure every farewell is carried out with dignity and attention to detail.
Whether it is making decisions as a director or making arrangements with a family, Cathy’s dedication to the people we serve, and to the continued growth and stewardship of the family business, remains at the heart of her work each day.
