Start your Friday morning hearing from Kelly Elphinstone, Executive Director of the Elphinstone Group, a family-owned business from Burnie that has become synonymous with Tasmanian innovation and global leadership. Open to all genders, this breakfast is an opportunity to learn from her experiences, gain new insights, and be inspired by her story.
For nearly 50 years, family-owned Elphinstone Group has partnered with Caterpillar to design and manufacture world-class mining equipment, transforming base machines into highly specialised solutions for the underground mining industry. Founded in 1975 by Dale Elphinstone, the business has produced over 5,000 machines from its Burnie facilities.
Today, the second generation, led by Kelly and her brother Adam, continues to drive the Elphinstone Group’s global growth including twelve operating businesses and substantial property and equity portfolios, including ASX listed Engenco Limited.
As Executive Director, Kelly oversees six operating businesses and the Group’s equities portfolio, sits on multiple boards, and plays a key role in strategic and continuity planning. She is also a director of the Tasmanian Mining, Manufacturing and Energy Council and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Kelly Elphinstone is an Executive Director of the Elphinstone Group, a private, family-owned global enterprise which today consists of twelve operating businesses and substantial property and equity portfolios. The Group collectively employees >3,000 people and earns >AU$2 billion in revenue.
Kelly is directly responsible for six of the Group’s operating businesses and the Group’s equities portfolio. She is either a Director or the Chair on the Boards of all operating businesses within her responsibility, and also assists to maintain the Group’s Government relations.
Kelly is an active member of the Elphinstone Group Advisory Board which is responsible for the Group’s overall management, strategic and continuity planning activities.
Outside of the Elphinstone Group, Kelly is a Director of the Tasmanian Mining, Manufacturing and Energy Council, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Kelly is passionate about Australian manufacturing and the significant role Tasmania is able to play in growing this industry. She engages with Local, State and Federal Government to promote local skills and supply chain capability wherever possible, while endeavouring to attract ongoing investment to the Region.
